It’s important to rest up before a day at Tierra Encantada, but we know that with little ones, bedtime doesn’t always go to plan. We’ve compiled a list of tips to help tackle bedtime with fun, and hopefully, success!

Creating a bedtime routine

This is a piece of advice everyone has heard– because it works! Humans are creatures of habit, and we all love to know what’s coming next. The same goes for our little ones! Whether the routine you create starts two hours before bedtime or 30 minutes before, having THE PLAN in place can make all the difference! The routine can be as detailed as saying “now it’s time to dim the lights”, or you can just hit the big milestones- brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, picking out a book- at the same time of night, every night.

Use bedtime to emphasize that you are together with your little one

Kids can often express big emotions near bedtime. What we hear as hurdles to sleep, can be their request for more quality time with their loved ones. Bedtime can make up that one-on-one time as you read books, get in your pj’s, brush your teeth and more. Be sure to put away distractions (like phone, or tv) and emphasize that this time is special, and it can be quality time every night.

Find a bedtime buddy for your little one

Whether it’s your child’s longtime favorite stuffed animal, or a new plush toy you picked up that day, let your little one bring a buddy to bed. Give your child the agency to pick their bedtime buddy, allowing them to have some control in how the night goes! Emphasize that their buddy needs to go through the same bedtime routine, and that they are extra tired and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Remember that tomorrow is a new day

It’s easy to get frustrated when bedtime doesn’t go the way you want– but take time to remember that tomorrow is another chance at making bedtime easier for everyone!
