Flores Que Cambian Colores (Color Changing Flowers)

Spring has sprung, and you can welcome the season with colorful flowers and a STEAM lesson!

How this uses STEM

  • The color travels up the flower stems- this is a process called capillary action! It’s how flowers pull water to their petals to bloom, and since there is color in the water in this experiment, it pulls that up as well!

Tierra Tips to Engage your Little Helper

  • Let your little one pick out the colors you’ll use- and say them in Spanish! Rojo, Amarillo, Verde, Azul and more!

  • White flowers
  • Jars/containers of water
  • Food coloring

  1. Fill up your jars with water
  2. Add drops of food coloring to the water
  3. Cut the stems of the flowers
  4. Place the flowers in the jars
  5. Watch the petals turn colors! This may take a while, but it’s worth it!
